The Magnificent Society
A friendly Discord server for chatting, games, and making genuine connections — built to be neurodiversity-affirming and inclusive of people of all backgrounds.
We aim to make this a place where you can relax, be yourself, and communicate in a way that works for you. Misunderstandings can happen anywhere, but here we commit to handling them with maturity: we will listen, take the relevant perspectives seriously, explain decisions where appropriate, and provide a route of appeal when a decision affects someone.
Our values
- We use clear, direct language and try not to rely on subtle cues or ‘reading between the lines’ (tone tags are welcome in text chat).
- We don’t make assumptions — we ask questions first.
- We remember that ‘obvious’ isn’t universal. What’s clear to one person may not be clear to another.
- We assume good intent. Missing a social cue is not the same as being rude, cold, or aloof.
- Different communication styles are welcome. If you write lots, write little, stick with one topic for a long time, or go deep telling us about a special interest — you belong here.
How we keep the space safe
- Open and fair moderation: Clear written rules, consistent enforcement, transparency where possible — while respecting privacy and safety — and the chance to appeal decisions.
- Easy reporting and appeals: If something’s wrong, you can contact the moderators directly. If a decision affects you, you can appeal it.
- Opt-in for sensitive topics. Serious debates belong in the right channels/threads, with content warnings where appropriate, so people can choose what they engage with.
- Access needs respected: We support different communication needs (e.g. text chat on game nights) and we don’t penalise people for communicating differently. If there is an accommodation we had not thought of, please let us know and we will consider what is practical.
- Compassionate support: We do what we can to help, but when something is beyond what our community can safely provide, we’ll point you towards more appropriate resources.
